Who is Martin Luther King?
Dr. Martin Luther King came to the world in Atlanta, Georgia on 15.01.1929. His family was famous for breeding Baptist priests. Although Luther first thought of studying medicine and law, he later moved on to his father’s footsteps, first to the theology school in Chester / Pennsylvania and then to the Boston Theological Faculty in 1951. Chester ‘s theology faculty is very important for Luther’ s future life. Mahatma Gandhi ‘s passive resistance movement, which ended this school with first place and changed the course of his life, is also introduced to this school. In 1953 he married Coretta Scott, who received music education in the same city while at Boston’s Theological Faculty. Four children from this marriage came to the world.
By 1955, Luther was about to make his first moves to fight against racism. In Montgomery / Alabama, we filed a lawsuit against the girl when we did not want the black girl to include a white man, and the black girl was convicted and sentenced to jail. The Luther Montgomery Improvement Association (the association for the development of Montgomery) was founded. The association, which aims to protect citizens’ rights, called on the public to protest the means of public transport. This struggle brought results in a short time and discrimination was removed in public transport vehicles. Along with this success, Luther began to gain fame throughout the country, which brought death threats and bombed attacks. Despite the threat and attack, Luther successfully organized the movements of the black people.
