Who is Santa Claus?

Throughout the world, known as Father Christmas, St. Nicholas was born in Patara, an important Lycian city in Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. A.D. Towards 300 Patara becomes a son of a rich wheat merchant living in the city while he is in prosperity and is called Nicholaos.

A.D. Towards 300 Patara becomes a son of a rich wheat merchant living in the city while he is in prosperity and is called Nicholaos. When it is born, a gift of the womb has been pointed out to the world as a savior of the parenthood of the parents, and a fruit of the offering of the offerings of the poor. Even younger is believed to create miracles. According to this lie, Nicholaos, who was under the wreckage of the destruction of a church that was under construction, was relieved from the bottom of the stones that were piled up on her, crying and groaning.

After a while his father died, he was the only heir of a great fortune and decided to spend his fortune to help the poor. Meanwhile, in Patara, a person who is very rich at the beginning became impoverished and became unable to make the daughters of his daughters. In a situation where they even think of selling their daughters desperately, Nicholaos decides to help them by seeing the situation. It goes to the girls’ house at night to avoid revealing yourself and at the same time breaking your pride. When they are asleep, they throw a gold pouch into the grandmother’s open window to dowry. The big girl who finds the money in the morning is very happy and gets rid of the bad situation.

Later on, Nicholaos, who wanted to meet the medicinal and tiny girl’s dowry, would throw it out because the windows were closed. That’s how the story of Santa’s gift-giving at the beginning of the year is born. Nicholaos is shown with three golden balls in the images and in the images.

A story about the life of St. Nicholaos is also like this;

Nicholaos goes to Jerusalem to be a pilgrim. He rescues the ship which was held to the storm by returning from the sink, and also a seafarer who drowned in the sea. From that day on, St. Nicholaos was accepted as the patron saint of the marines.

After a while, Nicholaos emigrates to Patara’s neighboring city Myra. The Archbishop of Myra was not dealt an agreement on the person who died. It is then decided that the first person to come to church in the morning is an archbishop. Saint Nicholaos is elected archbishop as the first person to come to church. Here they continue their miracles and save three generals from death. Another story is like this:

There is a famine in Myra for 0 years. A fleet of Egyptian descent from Alexandria to Byzantion was flooded by Andriake, the port of Myra. Nicholaos immediately runs into the lima and asks for some corn per vessel. Gemic will marvel at Byzantion when they are unintentionally in the presence of the corn they give.

During Emperor Diocletianus and Licinius against Christians, Nicholaos was imprisoned like other Christians. A.D. 325 to solve the problems in Christianity in Nicaea (Nikaea) parliamentary meeting as the Archbishop of Myra. It was later alleged by a church man named Bonaventure that he raised three children who had been brutally killed by a handma on the way. Saints who believe that the students are also the guardians

Nicholaos is thought to have died at the age of 65 on December 6, 343. The Myrians made a church in his name, and the lahitte in it left him for everlasting sleep.

During the Crusades, merchants from Bari on April 20, 1087, steal their bones and take them to Bari and bury them in basilica. a part of the bone that is supposed to be left behind is hiding in Antalya Museum today.

Christmas father church

The church or chapel built when St. Nicholaos died was destroyed in the earthquake of 529, and a larger, perhaps basilica-type church was built. Peschlow estimates that the large part of the north side of today’s building belongs to this first structure, with two small spaces with equal apse on the south side of the large apse. This church is VIII. It was demolished by Zelzela or Arab raids in the 15th century, then renewed again. In 1034 it was destroyed by the influx of the Arab navy from the sea. The ruin of the church for ten years is the Byzantine Emperor IX. It is understood from the inscription that it was repaired by Constantine Monomakhos and his wife Zoe. XII. Some additions to the building were made in the century, and the church was repaired.

XIII. We understand that in Myra, where the Turks took over the centuries, they used the church to worship freely, and that some repairs were made to the church. In 1738 the chapel next to the great church was repaired. Between 1833 and 1837, C. Texier, who visited Anatolia, also visited Myra and talked about the church in his books. About ten years later, in March 1842, with Lieutenant Spratt, Prof. They came to Forbes de Myra, they took a croquis of the church and saw that there was a monastery beside the church.

In 1853, during the Crimean War, the Russians were interested in the church, and in order to establish a Russian colony they took land in the name of Anna Golicia, the Russian settlement. However, when the Ottoman State noticed the political direction of the business, it took back the territories that the Russians had taken, and only the requests of the church were repaired. Thus in 1862 a French named August Salzmann was assigned to the repair of the Nicholaos Church. These restorations have been made as bad as to ruin the church. During this restoration, the bell tower which was seen today in 1876 was added.

There are two close churches dedicated to Santa Claus, the patron saint of many cities. His life story and miracles have appeared in many books, but the oldest was written by Michael of the Stadion Monastery in Byzantion between 750-800. Now we have an interesting structure of Anatolian Byzantine architecture. I go to church in Nicholaos together.

After the entrance of the museum, the stone paved road goes down. Innocent Santa Claus’s sculpture is seen in the green in my left.

IV. The only domed church found here in the 20th century is the south of VIII. A chapel in the form of a cross was made in the 20th century. Also in 1862-63 some parts of the internal narthex were added to the building.

Although the main entrance of the building is in the west direction, we found it more appropriate to describe it in the direction of sightseeing. Today a two-columned avudder is added to the Byzantine Era with one or two steps, descending to the south. The eastern part of this cross-shaped section
